4x4 logic grid puzzles

Four houses and four categories make sixteen facts to find. This is the size where position clues start to matter: with four houses, “next door to” leaves real choices, and “somewhere left of” stops being obvious.

Each puzzle uses the neighbour’s name plus three of door colour, pet, drink, job and hobby, and takes most people five to fifteen minutes.

A good first move in a 4x4 grid

Look for a “directly left of” clue. It removes one option from the end of the street for each item, and in a four-house grid that is a quarter of the possibilities gone at once.

Then check each house for a row with a single option left. Placing it removes that option from the other three houses, which often triggers the next placement.
